November and December can be really draining months. Between the holidays, calendars filled with events, and especially this year as an election year, we could all use a little extra rest and self-care! So today I’m sharing about a neat therapy that I’m not sure everyone knows about - dry salt therapy. It’s becoming more widely known, and salt therapy centers are starting to pop up in most cities. So let’s dive in!
What is Dry Salt Therapy, and How Does it Work?
Dry salt therapy, or more formally called Halotherapy, is the process of receiving therapeutic benefits from, you guessed it, salt! It’s typically done through a salt room or a salt booth. Similar to a sauna, you’ll sit in the room or booth and receive the benefits of the salt, which usually lines the walls in large pieces. Different cultures around the world have used salt in therapeutic ways for thousands of years.
How Does it Work?
Believe it or not, salt is actually naturally antibacterial. It is also naturally absorbent. So the way that dry salt therapy works is as you sit in the room or booth, you breathe in tiny particles of salt. The tiny particles enter your body and naturally clear out toxins through your body’s respiratory system. The salt particles are also absorbed into your skin, removing toxins there as well.
What are the Benefits of Dry Salt Therapy?
Since salt is naturally antibacterial and absorbent, it removes toxins from your body via your respiratory system and your skin. So it’s very beneficial in improving breathing issues, such as asthma, allergies, and even COPD. It’s also beneficial for the skin - helping with conditions such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, and more. It aids in skin cell regeneration and is also anti-inflammatory. In certain applications, some people have even reported improvements in pain and mobility issues as well.
Give it a try!
I have really enjoyed dry salt therapy and found it to be very relaxing. Even if you don’t suffer from the respiratory or skin conditions it is most known to help with, it is a great moment of rest and relaxation for your body and spirit. I have been to a salt cave a few times. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I found it very relaxing. I tend to be prone to sinus issues and I could really feel it opening up my nasal passages. My skin felt great too!
